Cast iron drainage for aggressive effluents

Agilium® Plus is a lightweight cast iron drainage system compliant with the EN 877 standard, tested against more than 40 aggressive effluents across the pH 1-13 range. It withstands a continuous
daily exposure temperature of the effluent up to 70°C.

Specified for hospitals and clinics, laboratories, industrial laundries, commercial kitchens and car parks.

Applications

Agilium® Plus is specified where discharge is chemically loaded or hot. The five sectors below correspond to the effluent families in our test programme (see table below).

Hospital drainage application

Hospitals and clinics

Hospital drainage carries the most aggressive disinfectants in daily use -peracetic acid, hydrogen peroxide, sodium hypochlorite, often at elevated temperature. Endoscopy, sterilisation and haemodialysis runs are the critical ones.

Laboratory drainage application

Laboratories

Laboratory networks rarely carry a single chemical family. Concentrated acids, bases and solvents may discharge into the same run, which is why certification across the whole pH 1-13 range matters more than any single value.

Industrial laundry drainage application

Industrial laundries

Sustained high-temperature discharge combined with alkaline detergents, surfactants and bleach, circulating through the network at up to 80 °C.

Commercial kitchen drainage application

Commercial kitchens

Hot grease, food-grade fatty effluents and aggressive cleaning agents, with dishwasher and steam discharge frequently reaching 93 °C on a non-continuous basis.

Car park drainage application

Car parks

Hydrocarbons, fuel and oil residues, de-icing salts and the runoff that carries them, in enclosed and underground structures where replacing a network is costly.

Agilium® Plus is a cast iron pipe compliant with EN 877, designed for buildings whose discharge is chemically aggressive or hot. Its distinguishing feature is a two-component epoxy interior coating applied in two layers, 250 µm average dry film thickness, which allows the network to carry acids, bases, disinfectants and solvents that degrade conventional linings.

For a design office, the practical consequence is that a single material can be specified across a mixed-discharge building: theatre and endoscopy drainage, laboratory benches, laundry, catering and car park runs, without switching to stainless steel or plastic at each change of effluent. Pipes are available from DN 50 to DN 300 in 3 m lengths and are compatible with our Pam Global® Plus fittings.

30% lighter

A DN 100 three-metre pipe weighs 17.6 kg, on average 30% less than the standard Pam Global® Plus range. Lighter sections mean single-operator handling on most diameters, fewer lifting constraints in occupied hospital buildings, and reduced load on fixings and structure — a point worth carrying into the specification rather than leaving to the installer to discover.

Chemical resistance: look up your effluent

Agilium® Plus was tested against more than 40 effluents in accordance with EN ISO 2812-1. Samples were immersed for 120 days, then assessed to EN 877: blistering rated to EN ISO 4628-2, rusting area to ISO 4628-3, and coating adhesion by cross-cut test to EN ISO 2409. FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What effluents is Agilium® Plus resistant to? +
Agilium® Plus has been tested against more than 40 effluents across the pH 1 to 13 range: hospital disinfectants including peracetic acid, hydrogen peroxide and sodium hypochlorite; mineral acids such as hydrochloric, sulphuric, phosphoric and nitric acid; organic acids; sodium hydroxide and ammonia; salts; solvents excluding acetone; industrial laundry detergents; kitchen degreasers and descalers; and hydrocarbons.
What temperature can Agilium® Plus withstand? +
Agilium® Plus withstands 1500 cycles between 15 °C and 93 °C. Several effluents in the programme were qualified at 80 °C, including desalinated water, dilute hot phosphoric acid, ammonia, citric acid and high-temperature oils.
Which standards apply to Agilium® Plus? +
The product complies with EN 877. The quality of the product is guaranteed by quality marks.
How does Agilium® Plus compare with stainless steel or HDPE? +
Against HDPE, cast iron offers class A2-s1,d0 reaction to fire, acoustic performance without additional lagging, and a thermal expansion coefficient of 0.011 mm/m/°C that removes the need for expansion joints. Against stainless steel, Agilium® Plus is generally specified where chemical exposure is broad rather than concentrated on a single family, and where installed cost and carbon footprint are decisive.
Is an expansion joint required? +
No. With a thermal expansion coefficient of 0.011 mm/m/°C, no expansion joint is required on an Agilium® Plus network.
Which fittings and couplings should be specified? +
Agilium® Plus pipes are compatible with Global® Plus fittings. Specifying the pipes, fittings and couplings together, installed in accordance with installation standards, entitles the project to the 10-year system guarantee.
What discharge and applications is Agilium® Plus intended for? +
Agilium® Plus is designed for the drainage of aggressive and/or hot effluents in buildings: chemically aggressive discharge, high-temperature discharge, or both. It is specified for healthcare facilities (theatre, endoscopy and laboratory drainage), industrial laundries, commercial kitchens and car parks, where a single material carries acids, bases, disinfectants and solvents across a mixed-discharge network. For standard wastewater and rainwater with no chemical or thermal constraint, the standard cast iron ranges remain suitable.
